The HLP Community

Are you or someone you know is feeling confused, detached, or fixated from interacting with AI chatbots like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, Replika, Character.AI & others?

Sometimes long or intense conversations with AI can blur things or make it harder to stay grounded, especially when the capabilities & limitations of AI and its potential effect on moods & beliefs are not understood by the user.

The Human Line Project and its community aim to raise awareness of mental health issues surrounding AI and help people understand these experiences.

Artificial Intelligence is everywhere — affecting our work, our lives, and even our relationships. Since early 2025, many people around the world have had profound experiences with AI chatbots that leave them confused, disoriented, and sometimes disconnected from reality. Some in the media call this “AI Psychosis” or “AI Spirals.”

The Human Line Project has been there from the beginning. What started as a Reddit chat between people trying to figure out what was happening with chatbot spirals has evolved into a grassroots community dedicated to providing peer support and education for people whose lives have been disrupted by chatbot-associated delusions.

We have seen hundreds of spiral stories, involving all enterprise large language models — like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, Character.AI, and others. Our Discord server is a place where people recovering from these experiences as well as their loved ones share resources and connect on a human-to-human to level.

100% Peer-to-Peer

Our Discord server started as a group chat on Reddit in the spring of 2025 when the earliest people whose lives were affected by AI delusions began finding one another online.

Since then, we’ve stayed committed to a peer-to-peer focus as we have grown in size and structure.

We believe that in sharing our experiences with one another, we are able to find stability, resources, community, and shared humanity.

A Private, Safe Space

Confidentiality is a key aspect of the Human Line Community. Each new member must conduct an intake interview in which we share our community guidelines.

Many of our users choose to use anonymous usernames, as they prefer to maintain privacy as they heal from intense experiences.

We have private areas on our server that cannot be accessed by researchers, journalists, or anyone working in tech.

For Those Directly Affected and
Those Concerned about a Loved One

In addition to numerous common areas, we also have private spaces for those directly affected by AI and those whose loved ones have been affected.

We also have weekly video meetings for each group. Those meetings are modeled after other peer-to-peer support groups like NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness).

We have found that dialogue between people who have been directly pulled into AI-associated delusions and those trying to help a loved one can be both challenging and productive.

If you or someone you know seems to be experiencing a heightened experience or a blurred reality after prolonged use of a chatbot, please reach out. You are not alone. We get it. And we are here to help.
